What are Hormones?
Hormones are chemical messages that circulate throughout our body. Some of the most common hormones include testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid. During early adulthood, our body maintains our hormones at optimal levels. As a result, we develop and maintain our muscle mass, have limited belly fat, experience high levels of energy, good mental health, and good skin quality. In addition, we have a high level of interest in sexual activity (libido).
After 40, our hormone levels begin to decline. Women undergo menopause while men undergo andropause. While the symptoms are different, less then optimal hormone levels often result in reduced quality of life. It can also increased our changes of developing obesity, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and heart disease.
Now, thanks to the availability of bioidentical hormones, men and women over the age of 40 can safely continue to optimize their hormone levels, improve their quality of life and reduce the chances of developing chronic disease.
What is Bioidentical Hormones Replacement Therapy (BHRT)?
Unlike synthetic hormones that are developed and marketed by drug companies, bioidentical hormones are plant-based and are chemically identical to the hormones that you produce. When taken, our bodies recognized bioidentical hormones as natural to our body and utilize them to maintain our optimal health and wellness.
